National Pet Memorial Day

September 14 is National Pet Memorial Day. This day is designated for reflecting upon and remembering our furry friends and loyal companions that are no longer with us. There are several ways in which we can honor our late pets by helping those animals still waiting to experience the life and love a human can give them.

  • Take the day to volunteer at a local shelter or rescue.
  • Attend a fundraiser a local shelter is holding this weekend.
  • Donate money or supplies to a local shelter on behalf of your pet.
  • There are also many foundations and funds for various causes that might be close to your heart or have a connection to your pet. Did you lose a cat to feline leukemia? Donate to a prevention group such as http://www.marleyfund.com. Have a certain breed of dog? Try donating to a breed rescue group.

Another great way to remember your pet is to make an online pet memorial at sites such as www.forpetloversonly.com/, www.in-memory-of-pets.com/, or www.critters.com.
